Why Sony's Dualshock 4 Back Button Is The Attachment We Need Right Now

Baby Got Back Button

In a post on the Playstation Blog today, Sony announced a brand new attachment for the Dualshock 4 that's aimed at casual players who enjoy playing competitively. Aptly named The Dualshock 4 Back Button Attachment, this brand new piece of hardware adds high-end controller functionality to your stock Dualshock 4 in the form of two programmable buttons that sit behind the triggers. Presumably accessible by your ring and pinky fingers.

This feature has long been a staple of premium controller options, but until now the affordable alternative always involved popping open your controller, voiding the warranty, and adding in 3rd party buttons. It's great to see Sony coming in with a premium and consumer-friendly option with tons of cool bells and whistles.

As pioneers of performance gaming gear and members of the family of Sony Licensed Accessories, we're impressed by the Dualshock 4 Back Button. It's simple, intuitive, and provides a premium feature that is typically only available on the higher-end controller options.

Outside of looking cool, the Back Button is a great piece of gear that aligns perfectly with the new trend in competitive gaming: cross-play.

It's no secret that the average PC player has a significant control advantage over the equal console player. People have been modding their controllers and paying money to close that skill gap for years. Now more than ever, as multiplayer games continue to adopt cross-play, the competitive advantage of PC players is going to continue to show. Above all else, the Dualshock 4 Back Button is a great way to level the playing field for the at-home competitive gamer.
